Hair Emergency!

Low Ponytail at J Mendel
Tomorrow I have been invited to an lunchtime event that I am actually looking forward to as it will combine my day job (Editor of Business Insight magazine), giving me the opportunity to interview a CEO I am excited to meet, with one of my favorite things family aside – All things that sparkle, and a little bit of fashion.

Boho waves at Marchesa
The thing is - what do you wear?  It is a lunchtime event, which the fash pack will undoubtedly be out in force attending, and I am having one of those moments when I feel I have absolutely nothing to wear… Argh…

And to make matters worse, I noticed this morning that my grey is starting to show – I only had it died two weeks and already I have regrowth!  Sadly, having a day job means that there is no possibility of my getting my hair done before lunch.  Yet all I can remember of the SS Catwalks 2015, was the just got out of bed, boho waves look that adorned the runways of Marchesa, Pucci, Chloe and Valentino the 70s’ trend that is so in fashion will make me look as though I am doing a mean impression of Pepe Le Pew.

Luckily, whilst I can remember the slicked back, low ponytails that adorned the runway at J Mendel, Ralph Lauren and Jason Wu (clearly not an option with a white go faster stripe running through across my head), braids of all descriptions are also hugely in fashion with Donna Karen, Marissa Webb and Michael Kors, from sleek to messy.

Clearly, with humidity on the rise, it will be a hair up day.  Right now I am leaning towards the braids as seen on Michael Kors, but not sure if I can pull off the look.  Alternatively, if I can’t get the messy look ponytail done as I want it, my fall back if the standard Kim Kardashian ponytail will work a treat.  With no white hair by my face, and height to cover all additional grey, it may not be the most fashion forward of hair styles, but it is certainly a classic...

The miracle that is Laura Mercier’s High Coverage Concealer for Under Eye

So the reason I have been MIA is that I have been really ill.  I have had a chest infection that turned into a four-day migraine – Which left me three hours ago and counting.  Sadly, with tossing and turning of not being well, plus the hacking cough that preceded it, means virtually no sleep for me for about a week.  In turn, I look very much like Cousin It, who has ten rounds with Tyson judging by my big black panda eyes.  Not a good look for anyone, especially when you are in media and everyone expects you to look like you have stepped from the pages of Vogue every day…

Following much whining by me, my wonderful husband returned from a daddy daughter-bonding afternoon at the shops with Laura Mercier High Coverage Concealer for Under Eye cream.  He did admit that I would need help on my return to the office if anyone was to take me seriously and was told by the lady in the shop that this would help – I must have looked a sight if he thought I needed an intervention!

Despite getting up late and not wanting to make an effort for the office, I did put make up on.  Admittedly, I didn’t do the ‘full face’.  I put the concealer cream on lightly under my BB cream setting it with a dusting of powder, but the change was instant.  Immediately my eyes were very much brighter, the dark circles underneath gone.  This coupled with my mascara helped my tired eyes pop.  I will definitely be incorporating this into my makeup routine moving forward and  I am very much looking forward to seeing it with a full face of makeup (which will be tomorrow when I have a day full of meetings).

Anyway following a day in the office, my hair is still a mess.  I looked pretty exhausted when I got home, but the cream that I applied at 8am this morning was still in place.  In fact, having removed it 12 hours later, I can see just how tired I really am.  And on that note, I am off to bed.

A Finer Fragrance – Salvatore Ferragamo – Emozione

This weekend I was in desperate need of some makeup brushes and hit Areej Beauty to see what I could find.  I went in for makeup brushes and left with the new Eau de Parfum by Ferragamo, called Emozione.

The multifaceted fragrance combines feminine floral bouquets to a refined and precious woody texture.  Yet the freshness of Bergamot that has been softened by powdery Iris and White Peach provides a velvety sensation.  The distinct femininity of the fragrance can be found through a bouquet of delicate flowers (which when I read up on the fragrance also includes Peonies, Roses and Heliotrope), make this perfume a perfect summertime spritz.

Ferragamo himself had been quoted as saying that he found his inspiration from the women in his life.  So it came as no surprise when I found that their inspiration for the fragrance came from his "Philosophy and vision.  Salvatore Ferragamo bestows an iconic Eau de Parfum for a woman who desires genuine things and true moments of plenitude.  A classic yet modern fragrance that encodes the pleasure of emotions and fulfillment of life: Emozione Fragrance."

Fashion FROW - Amato by Furne One

Following on from the Math Collective show was Furne One’s stunning collection. His intricate attention to detail won him rave reviews when he shows at New York Fashion week, not to mention the legions of celebrity fans that have worn his designs – Everyone from Katy Perry and Shakira to Heidi Klum and BeyoncĂ©.

The structured designs, all in white, were perfectly tailored.  From beautiful lace peplum halter neck tops, with sheer paneling at the back which had been teamed perfectly with a pair of white flares, to a knee length dress of white feathers, which was synched in at the waist by a corset belt.

Throughout the show, there was a great deal of sheer paneling which is perfect for summer.  Often, they were interfused with lace, with and without sequins.  Alternatively, they have ornate exotic flowers embroidered into the cloth (I have attached a photo – Albeit not the best picture to illustrate the detailing).

The photos do this collection no justice.

Fashion Show FROW - The Math Collective

Last Friday saw Season 2 of the Fashion Victims at the Atlantis Hotel, and I made it in time to see The Math Collective Pre Fall 2015 show.

The collection, which has a minimalist feel to it, took the trend for sports to a new level featuring shift dresses, A-line mini skirts, and tops that were squared off, sometimes showing a midriff and sometimes not.  The minimalist feel came predominantly from the various taupe shades and black colour scheme which was a theme running through the show.

With black and white geometric prints thrown into the mix, the collection had many pieces that can be worn day to night, but the overall feel is most certainly of luxurious comfort, with an athletic feel.  It is perfect to take you from the school run, to meetings to lunch with friends – All you need to do is change your shoes!
